October Newsletter
Our penultimate event ‘Transport Thro’ the Ages’ proved quite successful even with rather low numbers attending. The classic car display on the Wednesday morning went down well with good weather thrown in and some enthusiastic conversations about the vehicles. Visitors were quite complimentary on our displays too. A huge thank you to all those who gave their time and brought their vehicles to the event.
We had a visit from the Assistant Business Partner from Gilmorton school who had donated some archive material to the history group. It has been agreed we forge better links with the school and to work together in future. The history group is quite keen for this to happen.
Where the time has gone, we don’t know but we move on to our last event for 2025 - Pictorial Gilmorton on Tuesday 4th November at 7pm and again Wednesday 5th November at 10.00am. Please note the earlier start time on Tuesday evening as this event will commence with our 2025 AGM where everyone is welcome. It is your chance to have your say. Have we got it right at our events? What topics would you like us to cover? We would love to hear your views. So, pop along - There is no risk of you being railroaded into joining the committee.
This event also sees the judging of the photographic competition which ran for the first half of the year. We have received 50 brilliant entries so the judges will have a difficult time on their hands. The independent judging will take place prior to the start of the Tuesday evening event. There will be a £20 prize for the winner in each category those being adult and under 16 years. All photographic entries will be on display along with our own contribution covering Pictorial Gilmorton.
Now that the Village Information Boards are installed it’s time to check who’s seen and read them. We're running a monthly quiz competition with a prize to be awarded each month over the next year.
Keep watching this newsletter for the latest question and a chance to enter. The first question for this month (October) is:
What is the oldest building mentioned on the information boards?
Answers by e-mail to
All correct entries go into the draw for the price which this month is a box of Lindt Swiss Luxury Selection Chocolates.
Lookout for another quiz question next month. Good luck.
A reminder that you can always log on to our website where you will find details of all our upcoming events. Our archives section contains 26 different categories with over 340 documents which include write ups and photographs. Everything on the website is freely available for both downloading and printing.
Another gentle reminder that 2026 membership subscription is now due. You can renew at any of the events or pop your subs in an envelope at 4 Lutterworth Road, Gilmorton. Remember to include you contact details. Still good value for money at £10 for the year. You will receive a monthly newsletter, free entry to all regular events and first chance to any ticketed event.
We are still on the lookout for suitable people to join us on our committee. Alternatively, if you feel you could offer any help without being committed to a committee you are just what we need. So, if you feel you could be part of the team and get involved in Gilmorton’s fascinating history, we would love to hear from you.
