Gilmorton History Group Newsletter
September 2025
The children are back at school and we are heading into Autumn! It seems a long way off since our VE day celebrations back in May but we have been busy in the background and already looking towards 2026 events.
But before all that, September sees our penultimate event ‘Transport Thro’ the Ages’ on Tuesday 9th September at 7.30pm and again Wednesday 10th September at 10.00am. Wednesday morning only will hopefully see some classic vehicles on the car park. Our static displays will look at trains, horse and cart, buses including the post bus and other forms of transport that affected village life. If you have any tales or even classic type vehicles you would like to be included in the display, please let us know.
The last event of the year will be Pictorial Gilmorton November 4/5th where we will have our own pictorial displays about Gilmorton coupled with the photographic entries. Please note that the photographic competition has now closed. Photographic entries will be judged at this event.
Speaking of competitions, keep a lookout for another little competition we will be running, possibly next month.
A reminder that you can always log on to our website where you will find details of all our upcoming events. Our archives section contains 26 different categories with over 340 documents which include write ups and photographs. Everything on the website is freely available for both downloading and printing.
Last month we welcomed Steve on board as a committee member but due to personal circumstances Steve has had to step down. This still leaves us short so we are still on the lookout for suitable people to join us on our committee. Alternatively, if you feel you could offer any help without being committed to a committee you are just what we need. So, if you feel you could be part of the team and get involved in Gilmorton’s fascinating history, we would love to hear from you.
