Gilmorton History Group Newsletter
January 2023
We hope you all have recovered after the Christmas and New Year holidays.
We are currently finalising our 2023 dates and will publish these a little later. The first event this year is finalised and should prove a rather fascinating topic. As previously mentioned, we have over 1000 newspaper articles, some going back as far as 1736.
A huge thanks to Malcolm Butcher for providing us with all the articles. He must have spent considerable time researching all Gilmorton related newspaper items.
Some of these cover murders and suicides which surprisingly, are numerous over the years. On the lighter side there are petty crimes, accidents, drunk and disorderly behaviour (another large category) and all manner of “incidents”.
There are so many that we have decided to run two events with the second coming next year in 2024.
‘READ ALL ABOUT IT’ is one not to be missed with the dates being Tuesday 14th February at 7.30pm and Wednesday 15th February at 10.00am both in the village hall.
This is free to members and just £3 pp on the day for visitors. Not a member? Just sign up on the day for £10 for the year. This will get you free entry to regular events, early notification of special/social events and a monthly newsletter. We pride ourselves on the social side of our events and free refreshments are always available. So, why not pop along and see what we are all about - you will receive a very warm welcome.
