Gilmorton History Group Newsletter
February 2023
Our first event this year is now finalised and should prove a rather fascinating topic. As previously mentioned, we have over 1000 newspaper articles, some going back as far as 1736.
A huge thanks to Malcolm Butcher for providing us with all the articles. Some of these cover murders and suicides which surprisingly, are numerous over the years. On the lighter side there are petty crimes, accidents, drunk and disorderly behaviour (another large category) and all manner of “incidents”.
‘READ ALL ABOUT IT’ is one not to be missed with the dates being Tuesday 14th February at 7.30pm and Wednesday 15th February at 10.00am both in the village hall. This is free to members and just £3 pp on the day for visitors with the usual free refreshments thrown in.
Our second event is on Tuesday 18th April at 7.00pm and Wednesday 19th April at 10.00am and is all about pre-war vintage farming and country life and, for the TUESDAY EVENING ONLY, there will be a film show run by Rob Foxon from Attfield’s Films. Please note the slightly earlier start time of 7.00pm as the film show will begin at 7.30pm prompt. To fit in with the film show topic we shall have our usual displays on both days.
This is not classed as a regular event as we have to pay for the film show, therefore there will be a small entry fee for non-members and a reduced entry fee for members on the Tuesday evening only. There will NOT be a film show on the Wednesday morning.
As you are aware, membership includes a monthly newsletter. Prior to 2020 and lockdown, members were given twelve months grace whereby they were still receiving a newsletter even if they had not renewed for that particular year.
If members had still not renewed after the twelve months had expired, they were removed from the mailing list with the option of being placed back on the mailing list once membership had been renewed.
During 2020, 2021 and lockdown, membership subscriptions were carried over to the following years and everyone received a newsletter.
We are now in the process of tidying up our membership database and members who have not renewed over the past 2-3 years will not, in future, receive the newsletter. We do hate to lose members and to continue to receive the newsletter, please ensure your membership is up to date. We will still continue to grant 12 months grace.
Our February event is the ideal place to renew and is still only £10 for the year.
