Gilmorton History Group Newsletter
January 2022
First date for your diary is our first event on Tuesday 15th February at 7.30pm and again on Wednesday 16th February at 10.00am. This event is titled FOOD FOR THOUGHT and will look at food, recipes, rationing and traditions from past to present. There will be our usual displays and artifacts, the possibility of a cooking demonstration and some free tasty samples.
If you have any vintage artifacts, recipes or anything unique related to food that you would like to share, please let us know, preferably before the event, or just bring it along on the day.
AND NOW… ATTENTION GILMORTON
We are being quite ambitious for the second topic for 2022. We are proposing to organise a TIME CAPSULE. This is very much in the early planning stage as yet, but we do hope to get the whole village involved. We are looking into how and where it will be stored, what it will contain, how big it will be and for how long it will be left. What we would like is for groups and organisations in the village such as cubs/scouts/beavers, WI, school, cricket club, pubs, tennis club, village shop, beer festival committee, Parish Council etc etc to submit ideas related to their group for inclusion.
Separate items will be included for individuals and/or households in the village and depending on the response, we may have to make a decision as what goes in the capsule. It’s also the ideal time to launch the event as it is Jubilee year.
Some suggestions so far have been the DVD photos of the Gilmorton lock down 2021, a village newsletter, daily newspaper, coins of the year, remembrance bench and village sign photos, photo of Ben and staff at the Crown, perhaps standing in front of the beer prices for 2022!!!
We have a good strong suggestion of where it could be located but we are keeping this under wraps for now.
The start dates of the project are Tuesday 12th April at 7.30pm and Wednesday 13th April at 10.00am. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to having the whole village involved. At this stage we are very much open to suggestions so get your thinking caps on and let us know if you want to be involved and bring your ideas along on the days. This will be ongoing through the year with the final closure at our event of 8/9th November.
Our events are the ideal places to either renew annual membership or to join us. Membership is just £10 for the year and this will give you free entry to all regular events, a monthly newsletter, early notification and first choice of tickets at any special/social event.
Non-members pay just £3 on the day.
All our events are in the village hall unless stated otherwise.
Part of the software on our new computer system is Microsoft Office 365 and this has to be paid for by annual subscription. We are pleased to say that we have just received a voluntary contribution to pay for the 2022 subscription and the offer to continue for the next couple of years or so. This is a huge boost to our funds and a big thank you goes to our contributor who does wish to remain anonymous.
