We hope you all had a good Christmas and we wish everyone a Happy New Year.
We are straight back into action with our first event of 2024 entitled “Weddings and Bells” which coincides with Valentines Day. So, pop along and bring your loved one with you on Tuesday 13th February at 7.30pm and Wednesday 14th February at 10.00am.
Apart from our static displays we will have a video running of the 2009-13 church bell restoration project. If you think bell ringing is easy have a look at our bell ringing display.
On the Tuesday evening ONLY, we have specially invited guests. The Stanwick Handbell Ringers will be bringing a 4-in hand group to perform for us with the chance for visitors to ‘have a go’.
Also, on display we have three wedding dresses, one is 72 years old, one of is 63 years old and still has confetti lodged between the layers of the dress!
The static displays also show couples who were married as far back as 1611 and a little more recent, some quite well people in the village have told their wedding day story.
Looking forward to the April event “Growing up in Gilmorton “, we are in touch with the school and hopefully we will have some children’s work on display about growing up in the village. If you have any recollections of growing up in Gilmorton in the past we would love to hear from you.
We had confirmed the remaining events for 2024 but unfortunately, we have had to reconsider the planned 80th Anniversary D Day Landings event for 1st June at the Pavilion. After discussion with other village groups, it was decided to scale down the planned event and to hold a smaller version in the village hall on 1st June as originally planned. This will be organised by the history group itself. There will be more details about this a little later in the year.
The 2024 dates are all in the village hall and are as follows:
February 13/14th – Weddings and Bells
April 16/17th – Growing up in Gilmorton
June 1st (Saturday) – 80th Anniversary D Day Landings
September 10/11 – Heritage Week – To coincide with the National Heritage Week events (6-15th Sept)
November 5/6th – Church News – An in depth look at the church and its vicars from 1700s – present.
Membership for 2024 is now due. Membership is still just £10 for the year and is available at any of our events giving you free entry to our regular events, a monthly newsletter, and first chance at any ticketed event. Non-members are just £3 pp on the day with the usual free refreshments thrown in.
