Dear Member
Gilmorton Village History Group Update – March 2019
Our next event entitled, GILMORTON FAMILIES is on Tues 16th APRIL at 7.30pm and again on Wed 17th at 10.00am both in the village hall. We will be researching the history of local families, their family trees and anything related to them. If you have any history within your family and are willing to share it please let us know so we can include it in our presentations. Our very own Martin Bloxsom will be giving us a talk on both days about his own family. Membership renewal is still available at this event, visitors entry is just £2 pp and you will receive a warm welcome with free refreshments.
Our first social event for 2019 is a SKITTLES EVENING and the confirmed date is Friday 26th April. A bar is available with extremely low prices and if you require any food/snacks you are welcome to take your own. The venue is the Wycliffe Bowls Club along the Leicester Road (by the football ground) so there is little travelling to do. The cost is £2 per person and there will be a raffle. If you are interested then please let us know and how many are in your party. If you require any more information or to book the skittles night please phone - Katie Soars
The second social event is another trip (by popular demand) to The National Memorial Arboretum with the confirmed date of Monday 17th June. There is no definite cost yet as this will depend on numbers wishing to go but it is estimated between £12 and £15.
If you require any more information for this trip or to book your place please phone Sue Jackson.
The confirmed dates and themes for the remainder of 2019 are:
APRIL 16/17 – GILMORTON FAMILIES
JUNE 18/19 – A WALKTHROUGH THE VILLAGE
SEPT 17/18 – THE DAYWARBROKE OUT
NOV 19/20 – WARTHEME

We are working very hard in the background preparing our archives for presentation in folders for easier viewing and reading then digitisation and conversion of the archives in readiness for uploading to our pending Web Site. This week we have had a chance to view the “first draft” of the Web Site and it is looking good but not quite ready. Work is still ongoing.
