Dear Members
FEBRUARY UPDATE 2019
Don’t forget our first event for 2019 - GILMORTON HISTORY GROUP – OPEN DAY. It is more of a social meet and greet with refreshments, bric a brac. Aimed also at new folk who can just drop in and see what we are about. On display will be a Time Line of the Gilmorton History Group. It should give a better indication of when and how we started and the progress we have made together with some of our completed and organised folders for each event we have put on in the past. (This work is still on going)
There will be a little bit of work for everyone to get involved with. We aim to create a Gilmorton Village Time
Line. Starting from 1900 and going to the present day, we would like contributions from everyone. Using a simple ‘Post It,’ method, just enter a date and then something that happened on that date. It could be a wedding, a disaster, a funny occurrence, the start or closure of a village group, a celebration etc. etc. Anything at all that comes to mind about Gilmorton. There will be display boards available for each decade 1900, 1910, 1920 etc so just stick it on the appropriate board. You can do as many as you wish. There will be a new event Quiz for you to have a go at and we do hope to continue the quiz at each event. It’s relatively simple quiz and a prize on offer too!!!
For those who have not renewed their membership - this is a golden opportunity to do so. It’s just £8 for the year. As always, members gain free entry to all regular events, free refreshments, regular updates and first notification of special events/trips and first choice with any ticket sales.
As usual, members have free entry with non members paying just £2 on the day.
After the history groups committee meeting this week, we have had to change an event. It was hoped to cover transport in September but with the risk of poor weather we thought we may be able to book Hanger 42 at Bruntingthorpe. This is now not possible.
The 3rd September 1939 is the day that war broke out and nationally events are being organised to coincide with the 80th anniversary. As a replacement September event, we will be in the process of putting on our own event “The Day War Broke Out”. We have tentatively chewed over some ideas but more details will be made available as and when. Watch this space!!!
Definite dates and proposed themes for your diary are now:
FEB 19/20 – GILMORTON HISTORY GROUP – OPEN DAY
APRIL 16/17 – GILMORTON FAMILIES
JUNE 18/19 – A WALKTHROUGH THE VILLAGE
SEPT 17/18 – THE DAY WAR BROKE OUT
NOV 19/20 – WARTHEME

Between our regular events we are organising another trip to The National Memorial Arboretum sometime in June. We are also organising a skittles evening at Lutterworth bowling club in April. (Some of the committee went to bowling club recently to try it out and had a hilarious time). If you are interested in this one you can provisionally book your place at the February event or by contacting us.
